Free printable number tracing 1–20 — one number, one page, done properly.

Most number worksheets cram ten digits onto one sheet and teach stroke order by accident. These give each number its own page, with arrows showing where the pencil starts and which way it travels — because a 3 written from the bottom up is a habit that takes years to undo. Download 3 pages free.

Why these pages work

Built the way children actually learn it

➡️

Stroke order, shown not assumed

Arrows mark where each number begins and which direction it runs. Learned right the first time, it never has to be corrected — and correcting it later is genuinely hard.

📄

One number per page

Room to trace it many times while it's still fresh, instead of one attempt at each of ten numbers and mastery of none.

🔟

All the way to 20

Most free printables stop at 10, right where teen numbers start getting confusing. This goes to 20, which is where school actually expects them to be.

The difference

Practice that actually gets finished

Typical free printables

  • Ten numbers crammed on one page, each traced once
  • Backwards 3s and 7s that harden into habit
  • Free printables that stop at 10 and leave the hard part out

These pages

  • Correct stroke order from the very first attempt
  • A full page of practice per number, while attention lasts
  • Numbers 1–20 — including the teens that trip everyone up

Why does stroke order matter for numbers?

A number written in the wrong direction is slower, messier, and much harder to write at speed later. It's also one of the hardest habits to break — far easier to build correctly the first time than to fix in second grade.

What age should start number tracing?

Usually 3–4, once your child can copy basic pre-writing strokes. If tracing a straight line is still hard, start with pre-writing practice first — the strokes come before the numbers.

Should we laminate these?

Many parents do, then use dry-erase markers so one page lasts indefinitely. Printing fresh copies works just as well, and the file is yours to reprint forever.

How many pages are free?

Three, direct download. The complete workbook — one page for each number 1 to 20 — is included in the Complete Preschool Practice Bundle.
